WhatsApp and Telegram voice messages are saved as Opus audio, with the .opus or .ogg extension. Many music players, car stereos, Windows apps and iPhones cannot play them. Convert them to MP3 here and the voice note plays anywhere.
OPUS vs MP3: what changes
Opus is an excellent codec for speech: a minute of voice can take just a few hundred kilobytes. It is built into messaging apps but poorly supported elsewhere. MP3 is larger but plays on every device. The converted file is a 192 kbps MP3, which keeps every word clear.
When to convert OPUS to MP3
Use it to save an important voice message, share it with someone outside WhatsApp, send it by email, keep it in your music library, or play it on a computer that will not open .opus files.
Before you convert
To get the file from WhatsApp on Android, use a file manager and open the WhatsApp Voice Notes folder (on newer phones it is inside Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media). On iPhone, long-press the voice note, choose Forward, then the share button, and Save to Files. Only convert messages you have permission to keep and share.
Convert OPUS to MP3 on any device
Android: open the Files app, go to Internal storage › Android › media › com.whatsapp › WhatsApp › Media › WhatsApp Voice Notes, and pick the voice note from the dated folders. iPhone: long-press the voice message, tap Forward, tap the share icon, choose Save to Files, then select it on this page. Telegram Desktop: right-click the voice message and choose Save As.
Common problems and fixes
My WhatsApp voice note will not play outside WhatsApp
WhatsApp saves voice notes as Opus audio (.opus or .ogg). Converting gives an MP3 that any player, email or website accepts.
Where do I find the voice note file?
On Android, use a file manager to open Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Voice Notes. On iPhone, long-press the message, choose Forward, then Share, then Save to Files.
The MP3 is bigger than the voice note
Opus is extremely efficient for speech; 192 kbps MP3 is larger but universally playable. A few hundred kilobytes per minute is normal.

Frequently asked questions
My voice note ends in .ogg. Does it work?
Yes. WhatsApp and Telegram often use .ogg for the same Opus audio. This page accepts both .opus and .ogg.
Why does the MP3 file get bigger?
Opus is extremely efficient for speech, so the MP3 version is usually a few times larger. It is still small: about 1.4 MB per minute.
Are my voice notes kept on your server?
No. The file is converted and deleted straight after your download. We do not listen to or store voice notes.
