How it works

1

Upload

Drag an image in or click to browse. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, GIF and BMP are all accepted.

2

Pick a format

Choose the output format from the dropdown — the list is populated live from the conversion engine.

3

Download

The converted image is generated on the server and streamed straight back to you.

Every image format makes a different trade-off between file size, quality, and compatibility, and the “right” one usually depends on where the image is going next — a website, a print shop, a game engine, or an email attachment. This converter handles that translation for you: upload almost any common image file and get back a properly re-encoded version in the format you actually need, without opening Photoshop or installing a desktop app.

Which image format should you choose?

PNG is the safe default when you need transparency or crisp edges — logos, screenshots, and graphics with text all hold up well because PNG uses lossless compression. The trade-off is file size: PNGs are usually much larger than a JPEG of the same photo.

JPEG (or JPG) is still the standard for photographs. It compresses aggressively by discarding detail the human eye barely notices, which keeps file sizes small at the cost of some quality loss and no transparency support. It remains the most universally compatible format across browsers, apps, and cameras.

WebP was built by Google specifically to beat JPEG and PNG at their own game — smaller files at equivalent quality, with optional transparency and even animation. Nearly every modern browser supports it now, which is why so many websites default to it for faster page loads.

AVIF is the newest of the bunch and compresses even better than WebP in most cases, particularly for photographic content. Support is younger, so it is worth double-checking that wherever you are uploading an AVIF file actually renders it before you commit to it everywhere.

TIFF and BMP are largely legacy formats used in print production, scanning, and some professional imaging pipelines. TIFF supports lossless, high-bit-depth storage and layers in some variants, which is why print shops and archivists still prefer it, while BMP is mostly a relic of older Windows software.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting reduce my image quality?

Converting to a lossless format (PNG, TIFF) preserves the original quality. Converting to a lossy format (JPEG, WebP, AVIF) applies compression, so there is some quality loss — usually imperceptible at default settings, but if you need pixel-perfect fidelity, stick with a lossless target.

Does this tool keep the original image dimensions?

Yes. This converter only changes the file format and encoding, not the width, height, or crop of the image.

Can I convert an animated GIF?

Yes — animated frames are preserved when converting to or from GIF where the target format supports animation.

Is there a file size limit?

Uploads are capped at 50 MB per image, which comfortably covers everything from web graphics to high-resolution photography.
