How it works

1

Add your PDF

Choose or drag up to 10 PDF files, up to 50 MB each. The target is already set to 1 MB; change it in the list if your form asks for something else.

2

Press Compress

The PDF is rebuilt with lighter image settings, one step at a time, and the first version that fits the limit is kept, so you lose as little quality as possible.

3

Download

Check the new size next to each file and download. Text, links and page order stay the same; only the pictures and scans inside get lighter.

Getting a PDF under 1 MB is the most common compression job of all. Job application systems, online forms, school platforms and court or council portals often stop at 1 MB, and smaller files are simply faster to email and open on a phone. Upload your PDF and this page gives you a version of 1 MB or less, using the gentlest compression that fits.

Most PDFs only need the gentle step

A typical 5 to 20 MB scanned or photo PDF comes down to well under 1 MB with screen-quality images, the first step the tool tries. Text and line art are untouched, so contracts, reports and forms look the same.

Very long scans (dozens of pages) or high-resolution photo books may need stronger steps. You always get the best quality version that fits, and a clear note if 1 MB could not be reached.

Email and phone friendly

A PDF under 1 MB opens in a second on a phone and never bounces off attachment limits. If you send documents to many people, compressing first also saves everyone storage space.

For a target between the presets, such as 2 MB for an email service or 300 KB for a particular portal, choose Custom size in the list and type the number.

Common problems and fixes

A 60-page scan will not get under 1 MB

Very long scans may not fit with readable text. Split the document into parts with Extract PDF Pages and upload them separately.

Which pages make my PDF big?

Usually pages with photos or colour scans. Scan text pages in black and white and only colour pages in colour.

It took almost a minute

Large PDFs may need several compression passes to reach 1 MB. The tool stops at the first pass that fits, so smaller files finish faster.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1 MB here 1000 KB or 1024 KB?

It is 1024 KB. Results are usually somewhat smaller, which also satisfies forms that count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes.

How long does it take?

Usually a few seconds. Large, image-heavy PDFs can take up to about a minute if several steps are needed.

Can I choose 2 MB instead?

Yes, pick “Under 2 MB” or “Custom size” in the Target size list.

Does it remove pages or add a watermark?

No. Every page stays, in the same order, with nothing added.
