A 20 KB limit is one of the strictest you will meet. It usually shows up on exam, recruitment and scholarship portals for the signature or the passport photo, and sometimes for profile pictures on older systems. A normal phone photo is 2 to 5 MB, more than a hundred times bigger. This page brings it down to 20 KB or less in one step and tells you the exact pixel size it ended up at.
What fits in 20 KB?
At 20 KB a JPG photo usually ends up around 350 to 450 pixels wide. That is still clear for a face photo or a signature at the size forms show it, but too small for printing. A signature on white paper fits much more easily than a busy photo, because plain areas compress to almost nothing.
The tool keeps as much quality as the limit allows: it first tries the highest JPG quality that fits, and only shrinks the pixel size when even a low quality is too big. You never get a file that is smaller than it needs to be.
Tips for a sharp 20 KB photo
Crop before you compress. If the form wants a face photo, crop away the room and the shoulders first, so all 20 KB go to the part that matters. For a signature, crop tight around the ink.
Use a plain, light background and good daylight. Shadows, patterns and noise from a dark room take up space and force the tool to blur the image more.
If the form also gives exact pixel dimensions (for example 200 × 230 px), use the Resize Image tool instead: it sets the exact width and height and the KB limit together.
Common problems and fixes
The form still says my photo is too large
Some forms count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, so 20 KB means 20,000 bytes. Choose Custom size and type 19 to be safe.
My face photo looks pixelated at 20 KB
Crop the photo to head and shoulders before compressing. Fewer pixels to store means more detail where it matters.
The form also asks for at least 10 KB
Results here are usually 15 to 20 KB. If a simple image comes out smaller, use Resize Image and set Min KB to 10.

Frequently asked questions
Will my image be exactly 20 KB?
It will be 20 KB or a little less, never more. Forms check for a maximum, so slightly under is always accepted. If your form also has a minimum (for example 10 KB), you are safe: results at this target are almost always between 12 and 20 KB.
Why did the pixel size change?
A large photo cannot fit in 20 KB at full size without looking blocky. The tool lowers quality first and only reduces the width and height as much as needed. The new dimensions are shown next to each file.
Can I keep it as a PNG?
You can choose "Keep the original format", but PNG files are much bigger than JPG for photos, so a PNG has to be made very small to fit 20 KB. Forms almost always accept JPG, which gives a much better-looking result.
Does it work for iPhone photos?
Yes. HEIC photos from an iPhone are converted to JPG and compressed in the same step.
Are my photos stored?
No. Each image is processed and then deleted from the server immediately after your download is ready.
